About Saarang 2022

IIT Madras has seen a 60-year journey marked by many milestones, one of which was the advent of Mardi Gras, a pioneer student cultural extravaganza. Mardi Gras had the distinction of hosting Uriah Heep (in one of their rare world tours), Buddha’s Babies and even A R Rahman as a college student. Almost 45 years later, the legacy lives on, but now known as Saarang.

Saarang 2022 is the annual cultural festival of IIT Madras. Our fest is a cultural extravaganza for the entirety of South India, and is the largest entirely student-run fest in India! Undoubtedly, it is an integral part of Chennai’s fabric of art and culture and has grown into one of India’s most prestigious fests.

This is a non-profit IS0 9001:2015 organization and host over 70,000 people from 500+ colleges over the course of 5 days.

Spotlight 2022 of Saarang IIT Madras 2022, IIT Madras brings to you the first speaker of our glorious lineup. One of the largest cultural festivals in India, Saarang attracts over 50,000 people from around the country. Held in January every year, Saarang is commonly acknowledged as the mother of all cultural festivals, a reputation that the Institute is honour-bound to uphold.

Sucheta Dalal has been India’s leading financial journalist for over 2 decades and has rocked the financial world multiple times. Events from her life have inspired ‘Scam 1992’ and ‘The Big Bull’ both of which are based on her own book ‘The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, who Got Away’. She later went on the become the Financial Editor of Times of India.

Her work of exposing the Harshad Mehta scam in 1992, IDBI scam and the Ketan Parekh scam in 2001 helped prevent unimaginable loss to the country and bring the perpetrators to justice. Having been conferred with the Padma Shri in 2006, she continues to inspire countless people across the country to pursue the truth. Join us on 7th Jan at 5pm to witness an interactive session with this prominent Journalist!
