International Conference 2022 in Lucknow: The Department of History, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow in association with The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies is going to organize two days’ international conference on “Indian Culture in South East Asia: Past and Present” on 19-20 August, 2022 in blended mode (online and offline). The Brihat Bharat or Greater India comprises a major part of South and South-East Asia which had a very common religious belief, art, society and culture in distant past.

The South East Asia was more similar in cultural traits but was geographically isolated from India. This has leaded the scholars to think about Indianization of this area and up to some extent these were considered as Ancient Indian colonization by some historians. However, in the view of recent historical and archaeological researches, such explanations appear as an argument to moderation for this region.

In brief the South East Asia is a group of countries which lies in east of India, South of China and north-west of Australia and pacific islands. The entire region shares more or less common cultural traits with main land India. In current situation a wide range of cultural influences are visible in every aspect of south east Asian people’s life viz. Literature, art, architecture, iconography, social customs, food, festivals etc.

This International Conference 2022 in Lucknow is an attempt to shed light upon factors responsible for development and adaptation of Indian culture in local society. This conference will also bring recent historical and archaeological researches at one stage to showcase the Indian cultural elements in South East Asia. The conference will discuss the dynamics of regional and trance regional trade that brought change to Southeast Asian societies during this period. Also the conference will access the timeline of historical development in the South East Asia. This conference invites scholars to submit proposals exploring the Indian cultural elements in South East Asia. The original papers are invited on following aspects with special emphasis of influence of Indian culture:
